The Allara Global Food Handler Certificate Program provides foundational food safety training for food handlers working across the United States.
Participants learn essential practices for personal hygiene, preventing contamination and cross-contamination, controlling time and temperature, safely preparing and handling food, cleaning and sanitation, and preventing foodborne illness.
The program reflects food safety principles in the FDA Food Code and applicable requirements of the California Retail Food Code.

This program provides food safety training based on applicable program standards and identified regulatory requirements; however, some jurisdictions may impose additional training, registration, examination, card, or renewal requirements.
About the program
Program purpose and scope
The Allara Global Food Handler Certificate Program provides foundational food safety education and assessment for food handlers working throughout the United States. The program addresses food safety principles reflected in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Retail Food Code, including the 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022 editions, as well as applicable requirements of the 2022 California Retail Food Code (CRFC). The program is designed to provide food handlers with the knowledge necessary to support safe food handling and reduce the risk of foodborne illness in retail food environments.Intended learning outcomes

This program is intended for food handlers working in the United States, including individuals in California and other jurisdictions that require food-handler training or a food-handler card. A food handler may include an individual whose work involves the preparation, storage, service, handling, or other contact with food, food-contact surfaces, utensils, or equipment.Completing the program
Program requirements
Participants must complete all required course materials, complete the final examination within the applicable course access period, and achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the final examination. Successful completion of all program requirements results in issuance of the applicable Food Handler Certificate or card.Program duration and access period
Participants are provided access to the course for 30 days beginning on the date of initial access. The course is self-paced and is designed to take approximately two hours to complete. Participants must complete both the required learning materials and the final examination within the 30-day access period.Assessment instructions
The final examination consists of multiple-choice questions and must be completed in one sitting. Participants have a maximum of 90 minutes from the start of the examination to complete it. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.Certificate issuance and validity
Participants who successfully complete the required learning materials and achieve the minimum passing score on the final examination are issued an Allara Global Food Handler Certificate/Card.Course requirements
Instructional personnel
Course materials are developed and maintained by the Allara Global instructional design team and reviewed by qualified subject matter experts with relevant experience in food safety, regulatory compliance, hospitality or food-service operations, and adult learning design.Technology requirements
Participants must have access to a computer or mobile device with internet connectivity and basic digital literacy skills necessary to access online learning materials and complete the assessment.Program policies and disclosures
Participants should determine whether additional requirements apply in the jurisdiction where they work. Employers may also be required to maintain records demonstrating that applicable employees possess valid food-handler documentation and to make those records available to regulatory authorities upon request.
Certain employees, occupations or facilities may be exempt from food-handler training or card requirements depending on the applicable jurisdiction. Exemptions differ by jurisdiction, and participants should verify whether an exemption applies to their role or employer.
The Allara Global Food Handler Certificate Program is not a substitute for additional food safety training, licensing, registration or other requirements imposed by a particular state, local jurisdiction, employer or food facility. Participants remain responsible for complying with the food safety laws, regulations, policies and workplace procedures applicable to their role.
Applicable program fees, enrolment terms, course access periods, cancellation provisions and refund eligibility are communicated to prospective participants prior to enrolment.

Allara Global collects participant information necessary to administer enrolment, provide training, maintain assessment and program records, issue certificates, and verify certificate status where appropriate.
Personal information and assessment records are treated as confidential and are disclosed only in accordance with applicable law, participant authorisation, accreditation requirements, or legitimate certificate-verification activities.
Allara Global handles participant information in accordance with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements. Additional information concerning Allara Global's handling of participant records and information is available through its Policies and Procedures.
Participants may contact Allara Global regarding access to information contained in their program records, course content, program or certificate requirements, questions regarding exemptions, complaints relating to the program, or appeals concerning certificate-related decisions.

The Allara Global Food Handler Certificate Program does not currently provide academic or continuing education credit through an external credit-approving organisation.
The Food Handler Certificate Program does not receive commercial sponsorship or external financial support that influences instructional content, assessment development, program administration, or certificate-issuance decisions.
Certificates issued by Allara Global may be used solely to demonstrate successful completion of the applicable Food Handler Certificate Program during the certificate's stated validity period.
The Allara Global name, logos, trademarks, certificate imagery, or certificate designation may not be used in a manner that implies professional licensure, government endorsement, accreditation of the certificate holder, organisational certification, or any status beyond successful completion of the applicable certificate program.
Certificates remain the property of Allara Global and may be suspended, withdrawn, or invalidated in cases of misuse, alteration, falsification, or misrepresentation.
