The behaviours and practices that constitute modern slavery are serious human rights violations.
Modern slavery exists across the globe, including in the UK. The term modern slavery describes situations where coercion, threats, or deception are used to exploit victims and undermine their freedom.
Many UK businesses may be unaware of the risk of modern slavery within their operations or supply chains. The Global Slavery Index 2023 (GSI) estimates that 122,000 people are living in conditions of modern slavery in the UK, with a prevalence of 1.8 victims per 1,000 people.
